The top phrases you need to learn before flying to your destination

“Have you eaten?”

A common Singaporean greeting – Instead of hello, as a flavour-obsessed city, some Singaporeans express care by asking if one has eaten.·

“Can I Ta-Bao (da-bao) this dish?”

Can I have this (food) to go? – a chinese translation of packing food in bags/boxes, usually to ease transporting it.

“Shiok (she-oak)!”

An overt expression of good taste and enjoyment

“I jio (chee-oh) you for dinner”

To invite someone along for an appointment

“Confirm plus chop” “Double confirm”

To express certainty/accuracy in your statement – the ‘chop’ here is an old colonial term and reference to an ink stamp/seal that companies use to sign off officially on contracts. This means that a person is very sure of the accuracy of their words
